!The Computer Ate My Homework!

One of the issues facing writers of the modern era is the ever present possibility that a technical failure will completely wipe out our work – and you’ll never guess who was toodling along, writing away on the draft of a novel WITHOUT MAKING A BACKUP FILE when the computer crashed and the original is now more corrupt than the demon Lucifer himself. I have unfortunately been told the draft of my book is unrecoverable – I am starting over. The publication date for THE REVENGE OF AVALON will be moving, but I will carry on and I will resurrect a version of the story that’s better than what I lost. But still, my heart bleeds!

Coming close to the end

I have limited time to work on writing each day – like everyone else in the world, there are adult responsibilities that come along for me to take care of. That means that I have to take advantage of the limited time I do have to work on the series installments and novels. I think you’d be amazed that my first drafts are really super sucky, and that I warm up as I go getting into the flow of the writing and the story by fixing the ICK I wrote the day before. But I’m heading to the end of The Queen’s Quest – I have at this point one more chapter to go, with the exact understanding of what will be in that chapter. And I have no idea if I can get it done on time (this weekend) but I am really going to try. Here’s to hoping!

My Writing Inspirations

Here I am working crazily to wrap up Eleanor of Aquitaine’s story, and lo and behold there’s another story waiting for me – King Arthur, anyone? He’s going to have to be an intensely hot man, dontchaknow. I love finding the images that come through and I take a look at them and think to myself, “Yes, absolutely, I would do this man!” From there writing the scenes with intimacy becomes that much easier as I can now envision a “real couple” expressing their love (and lust!) for each other. It’s another technique that makes writing easier – and a lot more fun!

Turning Back to Eleanor of Aquitaine

For the moment I get to take a break from things technical and start working on the final book in the series – and it’s a doozy! It’s never a good thing to have a monarch lusting after you while the monarch’s wife knows all about it. Once again, Eleanor is making mean girl plans in Medieval Paris. This time it’s hard to see how Marianna is going to get out of this one – she can’t hide from Louis forever, and it’s difficult to envision Eleanor ever forgiving her for being more attractive to Louis than she is. Have I seriously written myself into a corner here or what?!

And a few hundred years later…

Writer types are not usually technology geeks, and I am no exception – if I could afford to have someone else manage a website for me (with me just providing the content and the techies doing all the work), I’d happily do so. Unfortunately as I prep this website for another go live, I am pretty much on my own, and going around in circles with help that’s not really helpful about this techie thing and this hoojiewhatsit. I don’t have any questions why someone out there is making millions on books for dummies because the true technotards are not from this planet, and they don’t speak English! It’ss almost done, though, and I’m hoping the last of the details will be something I can resolve in the morning. Here’s to the end of shlepping with the website! Yay!

I have a dark secret…

I’ve seen it happen now in a couple different book series. The fundamental nature of romance fiction is that the heroine and her man are supposed to live happily ever after. And yet the idea I seem to take to heart is pushing that happy ending further and further to the end of the story – something that a thriller author would do. Although with all my twists and turns sometimes, I feel like I’m writing more romance thriller than romance itself. But I’m actually looking for ways to put off the happy ending as long as possible to up the suspense level. For better or worse, I enjoy that as an author. How do you feel about it as a reader?

The Final Touches?!?

The content for the website relaunch seems to be done – now it’s figuring out all the little technical niggly bits – and somehow I think if I wait for that to happen that I will never be launching a website ever again. This is it – it’s Saturday or bust, and I am looking forward to it with a mix of nervousness and anticipation. I hope it all works!

Plotting and Planning and Scheming…

I have already changed my publication schedule once this year – as much as I like the idea of a series of novellas about the Crusades for Christmas, I have just enough time to go live with another steaming hot series of books. I have a subject, and I will NOT be sending a modern woman back in time, I will be writing spicy hot historical romance! What more can I say, I’m having too much fun with the palace intrigue of my current series. I will be generating another series where conspiracy and shrouded identity lead to hot sex and a hot historical “what might have been”! I won’t say more, but watch for an announcement when publication starts!
